Springtime Copper

I've spent the past fews days watching far too much news footage.  Unable to tear myself away from the unfolding situation in Japan.  But today, it got too much.  I realised I needed to turn the tv off.  Watching people suffering wasn't helping anyone.  So I decided to take a break and do something restful.

I know that probably sounds heartless.  I have the luxury of being able to turn the tv off, while people living in Japan have to continue enduring the hardships they are experiencing.  But I realised that watching the endless footage wasn't changing anything.  All it was doing was filling my home and me with sadness.  And that wasn't helping anyone anywhere.

I dug out some pieces of jewellery I had recently made and took some pictures of them in the light, and with flowers.  To remind myself that creativity is powerful, and making things is a positive and life-affirming thing to do with my days.

I love honking great rings, and so recently decided to make The Mother Of All Honking Great Rings...

When it comes to jewellery...  Sometimes more is more.

I hope you are having a bobby-dazzler of a week, and I'm sending love wherever you are.

  2. I know where you are coming from. We have been watching the news constantly, and you feel awful for what the people are going through. You feel awful for switching off the tv and going and making a cuppa, relaxing on a sofa and thinking about something else quite trivial.

With regards to the ring......WOW! I love statement jewellery and often think big is definitely best! I love a chunky ring.....only trouble is, they take up a lot of room in a jewellery box!!!!!!

I hope the sun shines for you today!

    love Vanessa x

  3. I really love your ring, it's stunning, the stone is beautiful.....

I think your right about the endless TV footage, I know if I was going through something as horrendous as these people are experiencing , I wouldn't want to be filmed. It's good to make other countries aware, so that aid and help can be found when it's needed, but a lot of it is TV sensationalism it makes me cross. I would like to help in a positive way rather than sitting watching others suffer..... cyber hugs

  4. I have to confess that although I'm definitely NOT a head-in-the-sand type of person, I've made a concious decision not to read the papers at the moment or watch the news.
Suffering with people is of no help in such an overwhelming scenario.
I've decided the best way forward is to be happy and continue with (what I hope are received as!) acts of kindness.

Your jewellery making is superb and yes, more is definitely more...discreet? Nah!!

  5. Wow. You made this ring? It's beautiful! And what a great way to turn the attention back to something positive, making pictures of a bergkristal (can't think of the english name of this stone you used), but I do know gem stones all have different qualities and meanings. This one is the strongest existing stone for putting light into your life...

  7. What a great ring, Em, so beautiful !
There are no words to express the suffering of the people in Japan, but life goes on and I agree that being creative is a positive thing to do.

Hi Vanessa, thank you for your lovely comments. You're right, I did feel terrible turning off the tv but it got to the point where I was just feeling awful and needed to stop watching. As for jewellery, I know exactly what you mean! I hope the sun is shining in your neck of the woods today, Vanessa. Hugs, Em xx

Hi Fading Grace, I think you're absolutely right, it does become something other than caring and moves into voyeurism the way that some tv programmes feed off people's suffering. I'm glad you like the ring. Em x

Thanks Ted and Bunny, I have to agree. And what good would discreet jewellery be?! Em xx

Thanks Laura, I love that clear quartz in called bergkristal! Em xxx
