Sassy Sewing

A few weeks ago, my lovely mum gave me the Cath Kidston book "Sew!"
Thanks Mum.
The book is chock full of gorgeous patterns and ideas for sewing projects.
And came with a wee package on the inside flap.
The material needed to make the bag featured on the cover, as well as the paper patterns needed to make everything inside.

I set to.

The bag is supposed to be sewn on a machine, but I wanted to sit and do it by hand.  To make the fun last longer.

So, here it is.

My finished Cath Kidston bag.  All hand sewn.  A true labour of love.

Ladies and gentlemen.  Prepare yourselves for some serious bag porn.  (Sorry Mum...)

The finished article.  Isn't she beautiful?

Yes, my friends, I stitched those wee pink stitches myself.
My first ever button hole.

Look at those teeny tiny stitches.
I am now slightly cross-eyed.

The bag pattern didn't come with instructions for a lining.
So I got jiggy with some serious creative thinking and made a lining and a covered base.

My first rolled loop.  I am such a sewing trollop.

Ernie checking out the finished goods.

One more gratuitous bag shot.

I'm now working on a pin cushion with matching needle case.
I'm bad.

  5. Well you just know this is going to push MY buttons (rolled loop or no!).

    L.O.V.E it!

Can't believe you have hand sewn it though. There's patience, and then there's....you!

Clever (patient, talented, and slightly cross-eyed) you! xxx

  6. Thanks Helena!

I'm glad you like it Zlatica, thank you for the lovely compliment.

I did enjoy working on the details Roberta. I've never sewn anything from a pattern before and really enjoyed it.

Thanks Em, it did take a wee while, but it's not a big bag so it wasn't too overwhelming!

Liza, I know, I sat and debated the pros and cons of hand sewing it, but went with it as the bag is quite small! If it had been any bigger it would have been the machine all the way. Thank you for the lovely compliments. I'm made up you like it!

  7. This is lovely! I also got the book as a present, and I'm mid-way with the bag (although I'm doing it the cheat's way with the machine). I am in awe of anyone who can hand stitch that well. My next project I think will be the napkins, they're so cute.
Enjoy the rest of the patterns!

  8. Lovely bag! I've got the book too and I will make the bag but I am a bit intimidated by it. I'll need to build up my courage. xx

  9. Wow!!!! It's beautiful...I'm seriously impressed! I can't even sew a button onto a shirt, let alone sew a hole for a button!! You go, girl!!!

  10. Thanks Helen. I liked the napkins too.

I was intimidated by the bag too Lynda, and it took me a bit of figuring it all out before I got there! I really enjoyed it though, so Good Luck, I'm sure your bag will be fab too. :)

Thanks Helene. I followed all the instructions and spent a lot of time looking puzzled as I'd never sewn anything like this before! x

  11. I love Cath Kidston, I got my mom some things at John Lewis and Liberty when I went to visit my friends in London a few months back. I don't know why I didn't take pictures of the stuff, I usually photograph all my great finds.

  12. I'm off to the new Cath Kidston shop in Liverpool some time soon, Psychedelicsister, and will be photographing with gay abandon if they'll let me!

  13. You are so lucky! haha...
I went to Bicester Village but didn't go in the Cath Kidston shop
since I blew all my money in the Vivienne Westwood shop ;)
I'll have to try and order some stuff online since all I have are a few tea towels.
